Tutor’s Joy
When I began volunteering at Hope House as the kids' tutor, I noticed immediately how professionally run the house was. Every night without fail, I would see Dennise in the kitchen preparing delicious tacos for the kids or Mike in the living room reminding them to take care of their homework or to follow up on some e-mail regarding their college applications.
But what truly made it a pleasure to tutor at Hope House every week was the kids themselves. Whether I came to see Victoria, Sarah, Amara, or any of the others, they would always have smiles on their faces, ready to dive into their work for their night.
I loved taking study breaks with them, as they'd be eager to ask me about my life and to share what was going on in theirs. In my five years of experience as a private tutor, I can confidently say that I have never had a group of students that was more of a joy to teach than the kids of Hope House.
